It seems that the much anticipated launch of the Xperia Play may be delayed by a few days due to shipping issues, with some retailers not having stock to launch with.
We already know that O2 will be delaying the launch of the handset, after citing ‘software glitches’, but now it seems that Vodafone, Three and Orange will also be holding back the launch, as they will not have enough stock to launch the device and fulfil all pre-orders.
Despite the networks not launching, independent retailers are still claiming that they have stock, and will be launching as planned.
In a statement, Sony Ericsson said: “We can confirm that the Xperia Play handsets are still planned to launch in the UK for April 1, as originally communicated. However, as of today, we have experienced a freight issue that may impact the number of Xperia Plays arriving at some retail outlets. This said, consumers can purchase Xperia Play as of April 1 at a number of stores and online retailers across the UK.”
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will come with six games pre-loaded, and there will be 44 other titles available to download, costing an average of £7 each. The Gameloft Title BackStab will also launch exclusively for the Xperia Play.
